There is so much I have to learn and so many areas that need to be challenged in my heart and mind. These moments highlight the lies and beliefs that shape my perspecive of people of color in relation to white people.

Accountability for All
Weeks later, I grow frustrated with how different articles say different things. I wish the reading gave me clarity and answers to why the officers weren’t (at the very least) fired, why the mistakes made during the operation aren’t a big deal to anyone in leadership, why it took so long for us to hear about Breonna’s death, or why it has taken so long for a glimpse of accountability to appear.

Ourselves on Blast
My students have a saying for when you tell someone’s business to a group of people- you’ve “put them on blast.” I’ve wondered recently if people read our blog and get uncomfortable with what we write about. We created la vita vera because we wanted to encourage others to pursue authenticity alongside us. Jon and … Continue reading Ourselves on Blast
Too Cool
Earlier this month, I took my mentee, Juvontae, out for lunch and a trip to the International Spy Museum. A Time to Celebrate
I am very thankful to have married Jon one year ago today. It was the best day of my life for many reasons. To name a few--All the people I loved were together in one place, Jon and I made a covenant, and we were able to proclaim who Jesus is and the purpose of … Continue reading A Time to Celebrate
Risky Business
I am not much of a risk-taker. I think all who know me would say I play it safe. I follow rules, use a fair share of hand-sanitzer, and I am known to stop at pretty much every yellow light I come into contact with. And while most 9 year olds were tickling their taste … Continue reading Risky Business
Landing Strips
A few weekends ago, I attended a men's conference put on by my local church. One of the speakers, Joe Holland, talked about the importance of open and honest relationships in the lives of men. In particular, he drove home the point that men tend to be "closed systems;" that is, we tend not to allow significant transfers … Continue reading Landing Strips
